Is there any other festival that brings together the essence of tradition and culinary delights together, better than Durga Puja? Perhaps not! From Kosha Mangsho and Basanti Pulao, to Bhoger Khichuri, the ‘Petuk Bangali (Foodie Bengali)’ definitely knows how to make his or her most awaited festival of the year, special!

As the days of the festival unfold, the kitchens of Bengali homes become bustling hubs of activity. The aroma of spices fills the air as the holiday season brings a reason for the quintessential ‘Bangali’ to take a break from his or her otherwise hectic daily life and cook up a storm to satisfy the stomach and the heart, alike. Khichuri, the one-pot meal made from a blend of rice and lentils, finds a special place among Durga Puja recipes. This humble yet flavourful dish, especially when made with fresh green peas, adds a deliciously warm touch to the festivities.

Not all get a chance to drop into their ‘para (neighbourhood)’ pandal to feast on the Bhoger Khichuri (dish offered to the deity). Sometimes, even if there is a chance, people would rather give it a miss due to the scorching heat of Bengali afternoons. However, the occasion is such that without the Khichuri, Durga Puja celebrations seem incomplete. This is simply one of those Bengali dishes you can’t miss during Durga Puja!

The Bangali indulges himself or herself by making this Durga Puja special dish at home. Besides, the ‘Koraishuti/Matarshuti diye Khichuri (Peas Khichuri)’ is so easy to make that even a child can cook it! Into a pot goes a little bit of ghee. Once it turns hot, cumin seeds, bay leaves and dry red chillis are thrown in. Some ginger paste and chopped tomatoes follow suit, along with basic spices, and sugar and salt to taste.

A little simmering later, cups of water are poured in and some moong dal, chopped potatoes and Gobindobhog rice are added to the pot. The mixture is then boiled and when the ingredients are partially cooked, the green peas are added. Once cooked, teaspoonfuls of garam masala and oodles of ghee are added to the pot for the final touch.

Your mouth’s already watering, isn’t it? So is ours!

The festive season has already set in so grab Keventer Green Peas from Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, or BigBasket right away! Get the pot ready to make the best Durga Puja food that comforts your soul, at home.

Perhaps the most indulgent side of Durga Puja, the grandest festival of Bengal, is the joy of savouring street food from hawkers and devouring delicious ice creams from little stalls that line the pathway leading to a pandal. As the streets of the capital city transforms into a grand tapestry of culture, art, and devotion, energetic pandal hoppers, Bangali and non-Bangali alike, look forward to this sweet treat that sometimes comes as a respite in the sweltering heat.

“Oi dekho ekta Keventer Metro Ice Cream stall. Ekta stick ice cream khele hoe na (Look! There’s a Keventer Metro Ice Cream stall! Can’t we treat ourselves to a stick ice cream)?” a friend points out to another.

“Chawww na! Onek to hatlam, ebar toke ekta ice cream khawai (We’ve walked enough. Let me treat you to an ice cream)!” the tired lover pleads.

“Pandal mein bahut bheer hai yaar, ice cream kha kar ghar chalte hai (The pandal looks overcrowded. Let’s just have an ice cream and return home)!” the non-Bangali calls it a day with a sweet ending.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Durga Puja celebrations, one can often hear someone beg for this dessert break. Crowds gather around Keventer Metro Ice Cream stalls with the same gusto with which they collect in pandals. The vendors offer a delightful array of flavours from classic vanilla and choco chip to more exotic options like Yum Aam, Konez and Barz. If you are lucky enough, you might also get a Keventer Metro Nolen Gur Ice Cream Cup while stocks last!

The joy of licking a cone or savouring a cup, while hopping from one pandal to another, adds a delightful twist to the grand carnival. And when it is a favourite ice cream brand such as Keventer Metro, the joy just doubles! The creamy texture and rich flavour of each ice cream simply melts in the mouth, providing a perfect breather from the humid air of the city.

So, this Durga Puja, while pandal hopping, do not forget to hop into your nearest Keventer Metro Ice Cream stall. We’ll wait right there for you to make some sweet memories that will linger on way beyond the festive season!

Durga Puja is just around the corner and we are super excited! “Bangali manei Pujo, Bangali manei pet puja (Bengalis are synonymous to Durga Pujo, and Bengalis are synonymous to food)!”

As the air fills up with the smell of Shiuli ‘Phool (flower)’, the ‘Kash Phool (Kans Grass)’ pops up here and there, Bengal gets decked up to celebrate its most extravagant event of the year. As is ritual, pandals across the state and especially in Kolkata will get flooded with enthusiastic pandal hoppers and evenings will end with joyous get-togethers. Family and friends will return to the city and guests will start pouring into your home. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could treat them to something traditional yet something homemade?

This Durga Puja, pleasantly surprise your guests with some of Bengal’s best desserts made at home. All you need are packs of Keventer Metro Cow Milk or Keventer Metro Rich Milk and a few basic ingredients.

Before you start making these sweet Bengali milk dishes, the first thing you need to do is boil the milk and add some lemon juice or vinegar to make some ‘chhena (cottage cheese)’. Hang the ‘chhena’ in a cotton cloth and let the water drain out. There! Your key ingredient is ready for one…two…three.. oh so many easy DIY Bengali sweets!

Begin with the ‘Roshogolla’. Yes! Bangalis don’t call it Rasgulla because they fill the sweet with the ‘Rosh of labh (the syrup of love)’! The art of making it right, lies in kneading the ‘chhena’ right and turning it into perfectly round balls. Boil it in some thick syrup made of sugar and water, and you’re done!

Don’t forget to try the Chhanar payesh – the traditional Bengali kheer made with cottage cheese and thick cow milk.

If you want to appear all fancy, Sandesh is your next level up. BTW, Kalakand isn’t as tough to make as you think.

However, if you do not want to go through the trouble of making cottage cheese but still prepare a delicious sweet dish at home, we have another milk recipe up our sleeve! Simply make the Chaaler Payesh (traditional Bengali Kheer made of rice).

Which one of these special Durga Puja desserts will you try this festive season? Whichever idea you go for don’t forget to shop for Keventer Metro Cow Milk or Keventer Metro Rich Milk from Blinkit.

Mishti Doi plays a vital role in many Bengali celebrations, but during Durga Puja, it takes the centre stage as the most beloved dessert. This sweet yoghurt, traditionally set in earthen pots, boasts of a creamy texture and a delightful sweetness no other version of curd, yoghurt, or even frozen yoghurt can offer.

It is an age-old traditional practice in Bengali households to carry huge earthen post of Mishti Doi when visiting friends or family, during Durga Puja. The dessert acts as a befitting gift, fostering joyous moments of togetherness, whether on Sashti, when the Puja’s begin, or on Bijoya Dashami, when the celebrations come to an end.

This sweet yoghurt bears religious significance too. Mishti Doi is offered to the deity as a part of ritualistic practices with utmost reverence. It is a cultural tradition to serve Mishti Doi as the dessert at the end of the traditional ‘Bhog’ organised in Puja pandals. Walk into a pandal on a lazy Durga Puja afternoon and you’ll witness someone or the other from the pandal locality, sitting on a typical plastic chair, and relishing a Keventer Metro Mishti Doi cup with not a care in the world!

And that is how every Durga Puja celebration is meant to be—sweet, refreshing, and a much-awaited break from the monotony of daily life. However, what is strange to notice is that a practice which started eons ago, continues to sustain even after years of modernisation. From Baby Boomers to Gen Alpha, this sweet yoghurt has a huge fan following across generations!

So, as you step into this year’s festivities, don’t forget to add Keventer Metro Mishti Doi to your special Durga Puja food menu whether as a traditional practice or simply because you love this delight! Buy it from your nearest grocery store and give all your grand puja feasts a sweet ending.
